Recently I spoke at the Hofbrahaus Haus in West Springfield. I would like to thank Liz for inviting me and the ladies who took part in January’s Fraughleign Fun Night. I discussed the MELT technique with the attendees of this ladies’ night and it generated a lot of excitement and questions. It seems almost impossible that such simple techniques could make you feel so good! The goal of this workshop is to teach you the simple techniques that you can continue at home for 10 minutes, 3 times a week. Don’t hesitate. These workshops fill up quickly. Today’s topic is Resurfacing Your Skin with Chemical Peels. If you’ve recently looked at yourself in the mirror and thought, “My skin looks so dull”, a chemical peels may be the simple solution you are looking for. We’ve discussed at-home skin resurfacing in past episodes of Weekly Renew, both for the face and body. But today’s show is about professional-strength treatments to deliver greater results. Chemical peels are a safe, inexpensive, non-surgical way of rejuvenating the skin.
Let’s review what we’ve learned:
Resurfacing or “exfoliation” is the removal of old/dry skin cells by mechanical or chemical means. Mechanical exfoliants include crushed grains (oatmeal) and nuts (walnuts), salts and sugars. Chemical exfoliants can include protein digesting enzymes like those found in papayas and pineapples. Or they can include fruit acids for peeling which is what we are discussing today.
Resurfacing or removing old skin cells at home, 1-2 times a week, has a multitude of benefits. It encourages new cell growth, creates a smoother skin surface, reveals a healthy glow as we remove ashy skin, unclogs follicles (such as trapped ingrown hairs or blackheads). Removing the old dry skin cells also helps products, like expensive serums and moisturizers, to penetrate better. If you’ve ever tried to moisturize severely dry, callused feet, and then experienced the joy of a pedicure, you know how much better your body lotions penetrate the skin when there isn’t a thick layer of dead skin cells blocking the way. One last benefit of exfoliating or resurfacing the skin: your makeup will last longer. Makeup adheres better to soft, hydrated skin and wears longer. Less need for touchups!
Our spa has a variety of at-home products to help you accomplish these results. One is a Swiss product called Soft Face Bio-Peeling. It is an emulsion scrub especially formulated to slough off dead skin cells effectively and gently. It provides instant smoothness with a double process of
An immediate effect from soft micro-spheres from bamboo, perfectly adapted to your skin to slough off dead skin cells and impurities.
A prolonged effect from wheat germ enzymes that improve skin texture, help pores look smaller and reduce the visible signs of aging.
After washing and drying your face, simply spread a small quantity over the face and neck. Allow the Soft Face Bio-Peeling to dry for 3 to 5 minutes. Gently massage or roll the product off until the product disappears. The result? A clear, revitalized, younger and fresher looking skin. Soft Face Bio-Peeling is a very soft, non-abrasive peeling adapted to all skin types, even the most sensitive.
But what if that’s not enough? Perhaps you visited our booth last weekend at the Springfield Bridal Expo. Your son or daughter is getting married this year. If you’re listening and thinking, I need more than just softer skin, I need a MAJOR skin overhaul, I have a solution. Chemical peels can offer more advanced solutions with little to no downtime.
There are a variety of chemical peels available today. They range from mild, to mid-depth to deep.
Mild Peels affect just the very surface layers of the skin and cause slight sloughing. They are most suitable for sensitive skin. Examples would be Lactic and Glycolic peels. These are the peels that we most often administer at renew.calm.
Mid-Depth of Medium Peels travel deeper and may cause the skin to turn brown and crusty for a few days. An example would be a TCA peel.
Lets take a quick break and we will return to talk about deep depth peels. My name is Dawn Nooney and your listening to weekly renew.
Deep peels are those performed in a physicians office. They are often performed when the patient is sedated, cause the skin to crust and peel, require continuous monitoring, but deliver dramatic results.
Mild Peels provide amazing results for acne, aging skin, sun-damaged and tired skin by refining the appearance of the pores and decreasing blemishes, increasing elasticity, tone and texture and reducing brown spots. There are many choices within this range. For example, a Salicylic acid peel, derived from wintergreen and birch, is an excellent choice for acne because it has an anti-inflammatory and drying effect on the breakouts.
Service of the Month: Vitamin C & Retinol Peel for the face. Resurface your skin! A mild but effective chemical peel. Suitable for even sensitive skin.
Promotes a younger-looking skin
Smoothes skin texture
Lightens brown spots
Encourages cell regeneration

I’m 39 years old with combination skin, prone to slight redness and struggle with the more than occasional acne-breakouts. Two years ago, I began to notice large brown spots under both eyes and along my upper lip line, as if I was wearing brown lip liner on my lips, most likely from years of oral contraceptive use. I’m also reminded I’m getting older by the fine lines at the outer corner of both eyes, especially the left eye.
This past fall I received a Vitamin C and Retinol Peel in our spa with superb results. The peel was very comfortable. In fact, I didn’t experience any of the heat or tingling common with other peels like Glycolic or Salicylic Peels. I honestly wondered if this Vitamin C and Retinol Peel was doing anything at all. The next day, my skin felt tight, as if it was wind or sunburned, but no redness. My skin began to peel about 48 hours later and continued until 7 days after the application. It required me to moisturize regularly and keep my skin super hydrated to help the skin regenerate more quickly and to prevent it from flaking too heavily during the work day. When it was over, my skin was smooth and glowing. And with just that single treatment, my brown spots were dramatically lightened. This peel can be repeated on a monthly basis to receive the desired results.
