Glow Up for Summer: renew.calm's guide to prepping your skin for the summer season

Are your legs ready for shorts? Do your arms look dry and flaky? Just a few minutes a day is all it takes to have the glowing skin you naturally want on your body. Renew.calm, a body and skin facility located in Western Massachusetts, has been helping their clients achieve gorgeous skin for over 23 years. Owner and licensed esthetician, Dawn Nooney shares some quick tips that you can incorporate into your daily routine for immediate results.

Dry and dehydrated skin

Hydration: Skin that is lacking water can look more dull, flaky and crepy. Skin will automatically look slightly better during warmer months when humidity outside increases. However, we may use our air-conditioning more during warmer months, which can lower humidity in your home or work environment. Consider a humidifier in your bedroom or office. That takes care of our external environment, but what can we do internally? Answer: Increase your water consumption. This is especially important if you are taking OTC or prescribed medications that can cause dehydration, like allergy remedies commonly used this time of the year.

Exfoliation: Buff away dry skin daily or at least a few times a week. The easiest way to do this is while you’re in the shower or bath. Use a face-cloth if your skin is hyper-sensitive. The rest of us will benefit from something a bit more aggressive. Sloughing gloves and your favorite body wash or cream soap are a quick and easy method of exfoliation.

Moisturizing daily is a must

Moisturize: I’m surprised how many clients admit to not doing this step regularly! They tell me they don’t have time. What’s even more surprising is these same clients will take the time to faithfully moisturize their face twice daily. In reality, moisturizing your entire body takes less than two minutes. Why are we always in such a hurry? Here’s how easy it is: after stepping out of your shower or bath, apply a nourishing oil as soon as you dry off. I like something light in the warm weather and really want the sheen an oil leaves on my arms and legs when I’m wearing dresses or sleeveless tops. Our staff at renew.calm love HobaCare Jojoba Oil. It’s non-comedogenic, has virtually no fragrance, won’t stain natural materials, and has a variety of uses.

It’s no secret that regular body exfoliation and moisturizing daily is the key to glowing skin. But sometimes we need to call in the professionals. Plus, who can reach their back anyway?
